Environment
This word is applied these days to the environment as something we should be responsible towards and also to environment as that which surrounds us. We would suggest that this is something of an urban view because in the depths of the country we know ourselves to be inseparable from our environment. We cannot harm our environment without harming ourselves and caring for ourselves means we must care for our environment. We invite you to share in this process of caring because we believe we are part of a living landscape - environment, community and economy are interacting elements of a living system.
High Trenhouse is a major contributor to an admittedly sparse economy in this upland region. Because of that the environment is treasured by all as an increasingly valuable resource, helping to heal all who come here seeking solace and in turn contributing to the economic life of the place. We humbly invite you to participate.
At High Trenhouse we try to do our bit. We contribute to community issues. We try to inform and inspire. We respect the environment (in 30 years we have yet to drive off-road except in winter necessity). We love and respect the wildlife. We support environmental and socio-economic initiatives. We also work with client groups to help organisations improve their environmental awareness and performance.
We try to practise what we preach (in fact we don't preach very much as we prefer the practice). Living many years in a harsh climate and close to the land, one learns a respect for nature and an abhorrence of waste and heedlessness. That is why we have long worked to minimise energy consumption, to recycle all we can, to be economic, to eat wholesomely and so on. As a gesture we invite you to sponsor trees, which we will plant on your behalf to lock in carbon and improve the scenery for all to enjoy.
For us, none of this is a fashionable fad but a way of living. If you pick up any of this during your stay with us it is likely to be at the sub-conscious level - and if it is we will be delighted.
